JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered law enforcement agencies to prioritise investigations into the recent killings of women whose bodies were found in and around Kempton Park in Gauteng province.
Ramaphosa expressed his condolences to the families and communities affected, saying the killings had created fear and uncertainty, particularly among women in the area.
“I have directed that these cases be prioritised and that no stone be left unturned in bringing those responsible to justice,” Ramaphosa said in a statement issued by the Presidency.
The president said he had spoken with the Minister of Police and the Acting National Police Commissioner, who briefed him on the progress of the investigations.
Authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths, protect communities and identify those responsible, according to the Presidency.
Ramaphosa also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with investigators and provide any information that could assist in the cases.“As a nation, we must stand up for the rights, safety and dignity of women and girls,” he said.
