World triathlon star Richard Murray is lost to South Africa when it comes to competing on the international stage.

World triathlon star Richard Murray is lost to South Africa when it comes to competing on the international stage.

Murray took to his LinkedIn page to confirm he was switching allegiance to the Netherlands.

Murray wrote: “I have raced for South Africa all my life, but as of (Saturday) 14 May (2022) I will be representing The Netherlands.

“I will always be a South African at heart, but my future and life will continue in the Netherlands. We will also visit RSA yearly.

“I intend to coach post-Paris 2024 Olympics and am currently doing a coaching course through NTB/Dutch Triathlon.

“Huge thanks to everyone in South Africa who has helped me over the years, I would not be here today if it was not for you.”

RICHARD MURRAY COMPETED AT TWO OLYMPICS FOR MZANSI

Murray, now 33, competed at two Olympics for South Africa, finishing 17th in 2012 in London and fourth in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

He is married to fellow professional triathlete, Rachel Klamer, who was born in Harare, Zimbabwe but represents the Netherlands at present.

Judging from his latest tweet, Murray appears intent on making the Dutch team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
