Two suspects were killed in an alleged robbery at the cargo area outside OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park on Saturday.
Two men, alleged to have been robbery suspects, have been killed following a shootout with the South African Police (SAPS) at the cargo warehouse at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday 18 July.
South African Police Service (SAPS) Colonel Brenda Muridili confirmed the incident, calling it an armed robbery.
“It’s alleged that unknown number of suspects robbed the cargo warehouse at the airport and tied up the staff,” she said.
Muridili said two others were seriously injured and several others were arrested.
“SAPS and airport control room were alerted and the K9 team and SAPS arrived and engaged the suspects wherein two lost their lives, 2 seriously injured and several arrested with the truck of goods,” she added.

According to ER24, paramedics along with other services, arrived at OR Tambo shortly before 14:00 to find several local authorities already in attendance.
On closer inspection, paramedics found several men, believed to be robbery suspects, lying inside and outside the premises.
“Paramedics quickly assessed the patients and found that two men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead,” said ER24 said in a statement.
According to ER24, seven other men were assessed and found to have sustained gunshot wounds, leaving them with moderate to serious injuries following the incident at OR Tambo.
“The patients were treated for their injuries and transported under the supervision of local authorities to a nearby hospital. The details surrounding this incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” it added.
