The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a social media moderation programme ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, designed to foster a more positive and inclusive online environment for players and teams. Over 60 players have already opted into the initiative as onboarding continues.
The ICC’s new software aims to protect the cricket community from toxic content, safeguarding mental health and promoting a safer online space.
The programme, powered by GoBubble’s AI technology, will monitor and moderate comments across the ICC’s social media channels and those of players who elect to participate, hiding harmful content such as hate speech, harassment, and misogyny.
ICC Head of Digital, Finn Bradshaw, expressed enthusiasm about the programme, noting the importance of a positive environment for players and fans.
South African cricketer Sinalo Jafta echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the programme helps players share their lives freely without fear of judgment.
In addition to social media moderation, the ICC’s digital products will include live and free radio commentary, match streaming in select regions, interactive fan content, and match updates through the ICC’s official platforms. Fans can engage using the event’s official hashtag, #T20WorldCup.
