John Steenhuisen, the leader of the Democratic Alliance, has demonstrated a disconnect from the sentiments and values of the South African people.
His actions and statements reveal a troubling inconsistency. He traveled to Ukraine, expressed support for the Ukrainian government, and upon his return, publicly backed the Ukrainian people.

However, when it comes to Palestine, he criticized the ANC government for its support and efforts to hold Israel accountable at the International Court of Justice. Moreover, he refuses to acknowledge the humanitarian crisis and genocide in Gaza.
Steenhuisen’s stance on apartheid and democratic principles is equally concerning. He defends the old apartheid flag, opposing its banning, while simultaneously burning the democratic flag of South Africa. These actions expose his priorities and allegiance to apartheid ideology over democratic values.
His hypocrisy and selective support for human rights and justice are alarming and out of touch with the South African people’s commitment to equality, freedom, and human dignity.
